Dr Josh Myrans is a Data Scientist with a keen interest in the application of computer vision and machine learning techniques to real world processes. He graduated from the University of Exeter in 2014 with a BSc in Computer Science and Mathematics, before continuing to complete his PhD in Water Informatics Engineering in 2018 as part of the WISE CDT. Josh’s PhD research sparked South West Water’s interest, where he commenced a 2-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to demonstrate AI annotation of CCTV sewer pipe footage.

Now based at South West Water, Josh was fortunate enough to receive four years of prestigious Future Leaders Fellowship funding. This has enabled him to continue this research, expanding to partner with the university and supply chain, building a team of researchers to embed automated sewer surveying within the water industry.

As an Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Water Systems, University of Exeter he works closely with academics within CWS and the wider ESE Faculty, to support his ongoing research. This takes many forms including academic collaborations and regular training/seminars on cutting edge technologies, all whilst building an expansive network of contacts in both academic and industrial circles.
