Joseph Shuttleworth

Project: Numerical modelling of transcritical flows: applied to short-steep catchments

Supervisors: Dr Reza Ahmadian and Professor Roger Falconer

Joe graduated in 2014 with a masters in Civil Engineering from Cardiff University and will return to Cardiff to complete his PhD project.

Academic projects include computational modelling looking at effective design of coastal defence structures, the design of a renewable energy park as part of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and an assessment of the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the water industry as of May 2014.

Work Experience
Industrial experience includes; 3 months working with Atkins in Cardiff, working as a part of the Highways team. 4 months in Kenya working for Rural Focus Ltd, a water engineering company. Work focused on the design of a rainwater collection system for a school. A hydrogeological survey of the Turkana region for East Africa’s largest wind farm with the aim of locating suitable location for borehole development. Finally the management of part of a program focused on increasing access to water for rural communities, this was in association with the World Bank.
