News: SEAMS Ltd guest lecture

Dr. Mark Engelhardt of SEAMS Ltd kindly agreed to spend an afternoon lecturing the WISE students on the topic of asset management.

“SEAMS Ltd started as a university enterprise spin-out company from the universities of Sheffield & Exeter, UK. Retaining our roots in Sheffield and with close links to the University and other academic institutions around the country, SEAMS has developed what was a research project in to a commercially successful industry tool, WiLCO.” SEAMS provides this software and service for transport, energy, local authorities, government agencies, and academics to plan out infrastructure investments (SEAMS Ltd website).

The lecture dealt with the difficulties large companies face in data streamlining, sharing of information and making sense out of large amounts of incoming data. SEAMS Ltd is an inspiring example of how a PhD research project can be turned into a commercial success.
